Restore Your Dental Health With Gum Disease Treatment in Sioux Falls

Gums are important to your smile since they keep your teeth in place. You’re at risk of losing teeth if they become inflamed and infected. In fact, diseased gums may affect your overall health, not just your oral health. Studies have linked gum disease to adverse conditions like diabetes and cancer. That’s why gum disease treatment in Sioux Falls is so important.

Our dentists can:

  • Remove the bacteria that causes gum disease with a deep cleaning treatment
  • Repair receding gums that can occur in the later stages of disease
  • Numb your mouth and administer sedation to ensure your treatment is as comfortable as possible
  • Perform an incision-free alternative to a traditional gum graft
  • Halt the tissue and bone loss that can lead to you losing teeth
  • Help you feel better by eliminating unpleasant symptoms like bleeding gums and bad breath

Suspect you have gum disease? We check for signs of it during every dental exam. But if you are experiencing symptoms, don’t wait until your next exam. Call us ASAP at 605-250-4651.

We Treat All Stages of Gum Disease

Many practices treat the early stages of gum disease and so do we, with a deep cleaning treatment called scaling and root planing. Unike many other practices, we can also treat the gum recession that occurs in later stages of the disease.

Our treatment can include:

  • Scaling and Root Planing – This treatment removes bacteria from above and below the gumline and helps shrink “pockets” that form between teeth and gums where bacteria can accumulate.
  • Antibiotics – To fight the return of bacteria, we may recommend applications of an antibiotic called Arestin®.
  • Gum Recession Treatment – To repair receding gums, we can use a gum graft. Your treatment and recovery will be completely comfortable and efficient.

For gum disease treatment in Sioux Falls, call us at 605-250-4651 or use our to schedule online. Symptoms include bleeding gums, sore gums, and chronic bad breath.

Common Questions About Gum Disease Treatment

Is gum disease treatment painful?

Some patients experience discomfort with traditional gum disease treatment, called scaling and root planing. We help make this more comfortable for you by numbing the area first, as well as offering sedation options for complete relaxation. We offer laughing gas for a mild effect and oral sedation for a heavier effect.

What causes gum disease?

When plaque on your teeth and gums is left untreated, it eventually turns to tartar, a hard substance that must be removed by a dental professional. If it’s not, the bacteria from the tartar will irritate your gums and cause inflammation. Eventually, infection develops and creates periodontal pockets of bacteria. As a result, your inflamed, infected gums may be red, swollen, and tender, and they may bleed when you brush and floss.

How long does gum disease treatment take?

Gum disease treatment may take one or two visits depending on how severe your case is. If your treatment involves a deep cleaning (scaling and root planing), each visit will be a little longer than a normal dental cleaning. Some patients find it easier to get through these appointments with sedation, which helps them lie back and relax.

What are gum disease symptoms?

You may not see the signs of gum disease on your own until its advanced stages, which is why it is often referred to as a silent killer. It’s also why your routine dental exams are so important. The earlier you spot periodontal infection, the easier it is to manage and, in many cases, reverse. Common symptoms to look for include red, swollen, tender, or bleeding gums, loose teeth, and persistent bad breath.
